Strategies for restoring the Aquaculture industry
in Ghana: Contribution of CSIR- Water Research Institute

The current trend of illegal importation of fish and fingerlings from South East Asia and the introduction of bacteria and viruses, that contaminate water bodies, by some nonchalant and ill meaning individuals or groups, has indeed caused Fish Farms in and around the Volta Lake to face humongous challenges in recent times.

It is in this vain, that the Ghana Aquaculture Stakeholders (GAS) has taken the initiative, to partner various Stakeholders in the Fisheries and Aquaculture Industry to fight this menace.

At the Stakeholders meeting held recently, Prof. Mike Yaw Osei–Atweneboana, Director of CSIR-Water Research Institute, gave an elaborate presentation on strategies to curtail this developing menace, which is destroying the socio-economic advancement of the industry. He called on all Stakeholders, to come together and work hard, to build a strong front to bring to an end this environmental and economic crisis.
