PROFILE of Dr. Patrick Senam Kofi, Fatsi (Research Scientist)
Council for Scientific and Industrial Research- Water Research Institute (CSIR-WRI)
Dr. Patrick Senam Kofi Fatsi obtained his Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Agriculture Technology with a major in Biotechnology from the University for Development Studies, Ghana in 2013. He further obtained his Master of Science (M.Sc.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees in Bioresource Science with a major in Microbiology and Molecular Biology in 2015 and Molecular Biology and Biochemistry in 2020 respectively from Hiroshima University, Japan. He has expertise and experience in Evolutionary/Population Genetics, Translational Science, Nanobacteria and Biomineralization, and Taxonomy, coupled with various expertise in Immunology, Molecular Genetics, epigenomics, microbiology and pathology, antibiotic resistance, biotherapy and alternative antibiotics (immunomodulation, phototherapy, and bacteriophages), and biotechnology.
His current interest areas of research focus on the molecular and evolutionary genetics of micro and macro-organisms, antimicrobial resistance, vaccinology and immunomodulation using pathogen extra/intracellular bioactive molecules, bacteriophage therapy against antibiotic-resistant bacteria, and the development of biotherapy-based technologies that seeks to eventually prevent the use chemotherapeutic antimicrobial agents within the food-animal production sectors in Ghana to ensure environmental sustainability and consumer welfare.
He has reviewed several journal articles for international peer-reviewed journals. He is an active member of the International Veterinary Vaccinology Network (IVVN), US Animal Vaccinology Research Coordination Network (USAVRCN), European Association of Fish Pathologists (EAFP), American Society of Microbiologists (ASM), World Aquaculture Society (WAS), and Japanese Society of Limnology (JSL). His work ethic embraces dutiful teamwork and transdisciplinary scientific collaboration, cultural versatility, and willingness to accept new challenges.
